こんぐー。クラシックのよさを少しでも知ってもらいたいと思ってこうした動画を投稿している腹ペコ小悪魔Vtuberのアシュレイです。
今回はヨハン・ルートヴィヒ・クレープスという作曲家についてちょっとお話ししたいと思います。
クレープスはJ.S.バッハの高弟として名前が知られていて、バッハがクレープスを「小川に住むよい蟹」と洒落るほどでした。
（これはドイツ語でバッハが「小川」、クレープスが「蟹」という意味があることからの洒落です）
それくらいの作曲家でしたが、作風は伝統的なポリフォニー様式を好んだため、古典派時代に入りかけていた当時はすでに時代遅れになってしまい、作品が出版されたのはなんと20世紀初頭になってからでした。
オルガニストにもなれず、宮廷作曲家などのパトロンもつかず、不遇な人生を送った作曲家ですが、やっと日の目を浴びるようになったのはいいことですね。

Today, I’d like to talk a bit about a composer named Johann Ludwig Krebs.
Krebs is known as one of J.S. Bach’s most accomplished students; in fact, Bach once playfully referred to him as “a good crab living in a stream.”
(This is a pun based on the fact that in German, “Bach” means “brook” and “Krebs” means “crab.”)
He was a composer of that caliber, but because he favored the traditional polyphonic style, his work had already become outdated by the time the Classical period was just beginning, and his compositions weren’t published until the early 20th century.
He never became an organist, nor did he secure a patron such as a court composer, and he led a life of hardship—but it’s wonderful that his work is finally seeing the light of day.)
